Heritage-led, Future-ready.
Built on craftsmanship, trust, and dedication to continual improvement, Golf Data Group brings together decades of hands-on experience across design, construction, and landscape stewardship. The Group delivers enduring environments shaped by precision, care, and long-term thinking — grounded in proven expertise and a commitment to consistent delivery.
The business began as a specialist golf construction and maintenance company, building its reputation through consistent delivery rather than marketing. Over time, this foundation of practical expertise expanded into design, large-scale construction, and long-term landscape stewardship.
Today, the Golf Data Group operates as an integrated organisation — structured to meet the scale, complexity, and longevity required of modern golf and landscape environments.
Each division builds on a shared legacy of craftsmanship while contributing specialist expertise to deliver cohesive, high-performing outcomes. This integrated model allows the Group to support projects across their full lifecycle — from concept and construction to long-term care — ensuring continuity, accountability, and enduring value.
Over four decades of experience, built on technical expertise and lasting relationships.
Golf Data Group’s history dates back to 1981, when Robert Douglas Marshall (Robbie) established Lawn Doctor, laying the foundation for what would become Golf Data CC in 1989.
From these early beginnings, the business established a strong presence in the South African golf industry, contributing to the construction, renovation and maintenance of more than 50 golf courses across the country.
Its history reflects decades of practical experience, established industry partnerships and a commitment to delivering work that stands the test of time.

Robert Douglas Marshall (Robbie)
Robbie Marshall’s involvement in the golf industry spans more than four decades. His early experience in turf management included specialist training in the United States, where he attended a turf study course at Texas A&M University in 1980.
A significant milestone followed in 1995, when Robbie visited Augusta National during the Masters to formalise an agreement representing Jack Nicklaus and Nicklaus Design. This marked the beginning of a longstanding professional relationship and contributed to Golf Data Group’s involvement in the construction of seven Jack Nicklaus-designed courses in South Africa.
Under Robbie’s leadership, the business established relationships with internationally recognised golf course designers, contributing to the development, renovation and maintenance of some of South Africa’s most established courses.
Golf Data Group’s evolution reflects a natural expansion of the expertise established through decades of work in the golf industry.
Today, the Group brings together four specialist divisions — Golf Data, GD Design, GD Construct and GD Landscape — combining established experience with the capabilities required to support projects across design, construction, maintenance and long-term landscape stewardship.
While the scope of the business has expanded, its approach remains grounded in practical knowledge, trusted relationships and a commitment to consistent delivery.
Our approach is grounded in planning, clarity and long-term thinking.
We take the time to understand site conditions, operational requirements, and environmental considerations before work begins. By integrating specialist expertise across the Group, we deliver outcomes that are practical, resilient, and built to perform over time. This considered approach ensures every project is shaped by informed decisions — balancing immediate delivery with long-term performance and sustainability.
Environmental responsibility is fundamental to how we work.
From water efficiency and responsible land use to long-term landscape care, sustainability is integrated across every phase of delivery. Our focus is on balanced solutions that protect ecosystems while meeting performance and operational requirements. This approach reflects a commitment to stewardship — ensuring the environments we shape are not only functional today, but resilient and sustainable for the future.
Golf Data operates through experienced leadership, professional and established operational systems, and long-term accountability.
This framework enables consistent delivery across complex, multi-year projects while maintaining transparency and trust with clients, partners, and communities. It ensures clear oversight, alignment across divisions, and the ability to deliver at scale without compromising on quality or accountability.
Our team will respond with clarity and next steps.
