Shaping a modern course within a sensitive landscape.

Jacques Moukarzel

Designed in collaboration with Ernie Els Design

The Scope

The design and construction of a modern golf course on a technically complex coastal site, shaped from former sugar cane hills.

The site, previously used for sugarcane production, presented steep gradients, environmentally sensitive areas and significant earthmoving requirements. Golf Data had to create a playable golf course by reshaping parts of the landscape while also protecting the natural and sensitive zones between the hills.

Golf Data worked across both design and construction, cutting into hillsides, moving ground, shaping water bodies and carefully integrating the course into the existing terrain. The team had to balance major landscape transformation with environmental sensitivity and long-term playability.

Zimbali Lakes is a modern, technically demanding and highly playable golf course that sits comfortably within a challenging coastal landscape. It reflects Golf Data’s ability to deliver technically demanding work across both design and construction.
